Sinner, resident in Monaco

Jannik Sinner lives in Monte Carlo not only for tax reasons, but because the Principality offers an ideal ecosystem for a modern champion: elite training, perfect logistics, privacy, security and quality of life.

After winning the title at the Masters 1000 in Paris-Bercy in November 2025 – beating Felix Auger-Aliassime 6-4, 7-6(4) in the final – and regaining first place in the ATP ranking by overcoming Carlos Alcaraz, the South Tyrolean tennis player is back at the center of Italian media attention. Alongside the sports praise, however, a recurring debate has re-emerged: his residence in Monte Carlo, seen by some as a tax escape.

But reducing this choice to a mere economic calculation is superficial. Monte Carlo has been the logistical heart of world tennis for years, with state-of-the-art courts, an ideal microclimate for training 10 months a year and an international community of champions. Sinner has built his operations center here, immersed in an environment that facilitates concentration, athletic progress and professional relationships.

Sinner Montecarlo: why his residence is discussed throughout Italy

Jannik Sinner lives in Monte Carlo for professional, logistical and personal reasons, but his residence in the Principality continues to divide Italian public opinion. The media interest in this choice is very strong: we were interviewed as experts in the Monegasque real estate market both by Today.it who dedicated an entire investigation to the topic with the title: "How Jannik Sinner does not pay taxes in Italy: here's how much he earned in 2025" – and by Mediaset, where Paolo Petrini intervened in the broadcast "Real Politik" on Rete 4.

After his successes at the Australian Open and now at the Paris Masters 2025, Sinner is celebrated as the new symbol of Italian sport. But alongside the sporting euphoria, recurring controversies have been rekindled: many wonder that the champion does not reside fiscally in Italy. The case was raised by prominent columnists, such as Aldo Cazzullo of Corriere della Sera, who criticized the fact that the "standard-bearer of Italian sport" does not pay his taxes in his country of origin.

Cazzullo went so far as to write that "he will no longer cheer for Sinner, and will continue to cheer Nadal, who is one of the main taxpayers of the Kingdom of Spain". Along the same lines, Massimo Gramellini also expressed perplexity about the Monegasque choice, albeit in more nuanced tones. The implicit but constant message: for some, living in Monte Carlo is equivalent to being less Italian.

But the question is not unequivocal. Many Italians and the vast majority of the sports media continue to support Sinner without reservation, separating competitive results from private choices such as residence. Proof of this is the more ironic tone of public figures such as Fedez, who said in a radio interview: "Great Sinner, he is Monegasque and does not pay taxes. He is number 1, if I could I would do it immediately". And again: "Is it anti-Italian to live in Monte Carlo? If you don't pay taxes here, maybe you have less right to pontificate about what happens here."

The debate is therefore deeply emotional and identity-based. On the one hand, there are those who accuse him of a lack of "Italianness"; on the other, those who defend their right to live where they best support their career, in full compliance with tax rules. In any case, the fact that a tennis player chooses Monte Carlo, a city that symbolizes performance, safety and perfect logistics, should not come as a surprise: for many elite sportsmen, the Principality is a choice of consistency, not just convenience.

Why Sinner chose Monte Carlo

For Jannik Sinner, living in Monte Carlo is first and foremost a professional choice. The Principality offers unique conditions for those who live on performance and travel every week: perfect weather, unbeatable logistics, privacy and an elite setting.

Located on the French Riviera, Monaco enjoys more than 300 days of sunshine a year, ideal conditions for a tennis player. Workouts can take place outdoors almost all year round, without seasonal breaks. In addition, Nice airport (30 minutes away) allows Sinner to fly in a few hours to any ATP tournament and return home between two matches.

The presence of the Monte-Carlo Country Club, home of the ATP 1000, is another crucial factor. Novak Djokovic, Daniil Medvedev, Holger Rune and Stefanos Tsitsipas train regularly here: an exclusive community of champions that promotes constant comparisons and technical growth. Sinner himself said: "All the strongest players are there, the courts are always available."

Even from the point of view of discretion, Monte Carlo is unparalleled. Sinner can walk with his partner Laila Hasanovic or have an ice cream in the La Condamine neighborhood without being besieged by fans or paparazzi. As the local merchants explain: "No one asks for autographs here, we are used to famous people." A rare luxury for a young global superstar.

The quality of life completes the picture: cleanliness, urban order, excellent restaurants, total safety. Living in a stable and protected environment allows Sinner to focus only on his career. And as the choices of Djokovic, Leclerc or Berrettini demonstrate, Monte Carlo is not an escape, but an optimal ecosystem for the sporting elite.

Monte Carlo is not an escape, it is a vision

Jannik Sinner has found much more than just a tax advantage in Monte Carlo. The Principality offers it a complete ecosystem, made up of industrious silence, top-level sports infrastructure, absolute discretion and a perfect climate for those who want to train continuously. In this microstate overlooking the Mediterranean, everything is designed to facilitate those who aim for excellence, without compromise: from health facilities to international connections, up to urban security and political stability that few other places in Europe can guarantee.

Reducing this strategic choice to the fiscal issue alone, and even worse, considering it a form of national betrayal, is not only unfair, but profoundly short-sighted. Living outside the Italian borders does not make anyone "less Italian". Sinner continues to proudly represent Italy in the most prestigious tournaments in the world, carrying the tricolor high and inspiring an entire generation of young sportsmen. His dedication, his humility and his results speak for him, much more than the controversies related to the residence.

And then, let's say it clearly: Monte Carlo is today a natural crossroads for those looking for an efficient and stimulating foothold in the center of Europe. It is the place where athletes, entrepreneurs and Ultra High Net Worth Individuals from all over the world meet, inspire each other and build their future. It is no coincidence that many Italians – not just athletes – choose the Principality to live, work or invest. Those who decide to settle here, as Sinner did, often do so also to protect their time, their serenity and to live in a context that reflects their values of commitment, excellence and discretion.

From a real estate point of view, Monaco represents a far-sighted choice: investing here means focusing on a stable, high-profile market, where the prestige of the address is combined with the solidity of the investment. The data confirm this: demand remains strong, and the perceived standard of living is among the highest in the world. In this sense, those who choose to buy or live in the Principality, athlete or not, are not only looking for a tax advantage, but a real quality of life.

Monte Carlo for Sinner is not an escape, but a place of concentration and construction. It is the base of operations from which a young champion can aim high, without distractions, without compromises, with elegance and determination. Because being Italian is not measured by an address, but by what you give to your country. And Jannik, from Monte Carlo, is giving Italy one of its brightest sporting chapters ever.
